We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this cruel disease.

We have chosen to fundraise for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK.

In 2019, our amazing friend Charlie was diagnosed with a Grade 2 astrocytoma at the age of 21. After processing this news, which came as a huge shock, Charlie underwent a craniotomy that summer to remove the tumour. Unfortunately, he caught an infection in his bone flap immediately after the operation and had to have further surgery to remove & replace the bone with a plastic plate, as well as antibiotics to eradicate any remaining infection. Following this, he decided to move to London with a friend and started a new job in the civil service, which he thoroughly enjoyed. However, in 2023, after having multiple seizures and struggling to walk, Charlie received the devastating news that it had grown back as a Grade 4 Glioblastoma & that he would need further surgery, this time an awake craniotomy. Since his third surgery last summer, Charlie has gone through multiple rounds of chemotherapy & radiotherapy to target the remaining tumour cells. This has had an unimaginable impact on his life and we are in awe of his ongoing courage and fighting spirit. Charlie continues to be a truly incredible inspiration to us all.

In February 2024, aged just 26, Charlie received the heartbreaking prognosis of 6 months. Many people survive beyond this & remaining hopeful and positive is all that Charlie and everyone around him can do. The news has been a lot to process & as his friends of over 20 years, we have decided that it's time to take on a challenge, in support of Brain Tumour Research.

Whilst we cannot change Charlie's situation, what we can do is raise as much money as possible for this extremely important charity. It is absolutely vital that this under-researched disease, which impacts so many lives, gets the funding it so desperately needs.

We have chosen to take on the 3 Peak Challenge in June of this year, which will see us (attempt to!!) climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours, including travel time between peaks. This is not something any of us have done before & it certainly won't be easy so we would be extremely grateful for your support.

Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
