Story
We are a group of ladies from Bromsgrove who came together to sew, and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. We call ourselves the Forget-me-not Sewing Bees after their logo flower. Our aim is to raise awareness and much needed funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, especially at this crucial time with the breakthrough in development of new drugs to help combat the disease.
We run free sewing workshops, making a variety of machine stitched items, usually including recycled denim. In return the participants make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Our latest fundraising project is a group quilt called ‘Remember When…’ It was created by 20 of our members, many of whom had not previously tried patchwork. The quilt not only includes patchwork and recycled denim but also links to our group name: The Forget-me-not Sewing Bees; hence the colour theme, blue, black and gold, the flowers, the bees and the tea and cake (always important to finish with tea and cake at the end of a workshop!). The quilt is also a tribute to three of our members who sadly passed away before it was finished; Mandy, Debs and Lois.
We have entered our quilt into the Festival of Quilts at the NEC where it will be seen by thousands and where we also hope to raise further funds.
As you can probably tell we are really proud of our quilt, the friendships created, the story it tells and our commitment to raising awareness of dementia and Alzheimers. It has been sewn with love and enthusiasm by all those involved.
Any support you are able to give would be gratefully received as we support the Society in their fight to find a cure for this disease.
Thank you
