Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello.

My name is Jan Collins.

I am the lucky father of 3 beautiful daughters, they are in fact triplets, now aged 11.

At 2 years old, Daisy and Amber were diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome.

It is a debilitating and aggressive kidney disease that has led our girls to both need over 5 years of dialysis each, often for 16 hrs a day, every day due to end stage renal failure. Daisy has since had a kidney transplant, and is in better health, Amber remains on dialysis and we hope a transplant is soon.

I want to raise money for the NEPHROTIC SYNDROME TRUST (NeST) The trust was set up in 2005 due to the lack of research into Nephrotic Syndrome and to give the Syndrome a voice. Working alongside the expert Paediatric Renal team at Bristol university children hospital to research a cure for Nephrotic Syndrome.

I am not someone who has done over 100 parachute jumps and is planning doing number 110 for charity as I smile and laugh. I am a keen runner, so a charity run would be an easy option.

I am someone who hates heights. Hates small planes and hates fairground rides or anything spiny, fast and out of control. The worst and most scary place for me to be, would be stood on top of an old biplane as it took off, flew around, and then hopefully landed.

So that is exactly what I am going to do. I want to raise money by making myself the most scared and most uncomfortable I could be. Because it pales into significance compared to how scared any child is as they make their way down to an operating theatre for a kidney transplant. And if I can try and find hope for these children, then strapping myself to a plane wing it is.

Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) affects approx 10,000 people in the UK, majority are children, with no known cause or cure. The current treatment is non-specific and highly toxic, with many potentially life-threatening complications. NeST funds Bristol Children's Hospital in researching NS to find a cure.
