Story

I am running the London Marathon 2025 on behalf of my dad who is living with Alzheimer's after being diagnosed with the disease in 2023.

Dad is not only a loving, kind and generous father to myself and my sister but also a wonderful grandad to his 2 granddaughters and grandson, who think the absolute world of him. What can I do to raise awareness and funds for this terrible disease? Do what dad has always loved and something that I love ...sport!

There have been countless times that dad has stood in all weathers on sidelines, touchlines and boundaries watching me play sport in my younger years. We often reminisce about those times and it is fantastic watching his face glow when we talk about them.

It has been an eventful few years with my mum unfortunately passing away in 2018. This was not long after dad retired, having worked hard for over 40 years and it was tough for him to be alone during the Covid and lockdown years. Alzhemier's Research UK "exists for a cure" and it would be such a relief to the thousands of families of those suffering with the disease to get to spend a few more years enjoying time spent with those who are closest to them. Dad loves his family and I want to do what I can to help him overcome the difficulties that he and his loved ones are facing and will continue to face with this disease.

I love a sporting challenge and what better challenge than to BEAT my London Marathon 2018 time of 4 hours 46 minutes. Dad was watching that year along with my sister, and my wife who based themselves just after London Bridge seeing me at about 13 miles (happy-ish Jack) and 22 miles (sad and hurting Jack!). Even though he won't come to London this time, I know he will be cheering me on from the breakfast room with a cup of coffee in hand; no doubt shouting "Come on Big Guy; keep going mate!" Having a young family will make finding the time for training more tricky this time, but I an determined to make my dad proud.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I would be extremely grateful for any donations, every little helps, to help raise funds for a disease which, unfortunately, will affect 1 in 3 people in the UK during their life time. Below is a summary from Alzheimer's UK:

Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia. We are the UK's leading dementia research charity. We exist for a cure. Your donation helps our scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
