Jack's Drumathon, 12 February 2025

Story

Jack's mum was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer. Since then life has become more difficult for Jack and his family. Jack is a passionate drummer and musician. He has decided to use his passion and talent as a way through this difficult time, while also helping others whose lives have been affected by Cancer.

On the 12th February, 2025 in Penzance, Jack will drum from 7am - 7pm in the Humphry Davy School gym. He will be surrounded by friends and the school community as he attempts to raise over £1000 for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and the Sunrise Appeal.

The Sunrise Appeal is an independent charity which had the initial aim of raising £500,000 towards the cost of building a new, state of the art, Clinical Oncology Department at Treliske, equipped to deliver the most advanced radiotherapy techniques.

But that was just the start of the journey. The Sunrise Appeal continues to raise money to support innovation at the Sunrise Centre, and ensure that the department always stays at the cutting edge of developments, and able to deliver gold standard cancer treatment in Cornwall.

To date, over £2.9 million has been donated to the centre for buildings and equipment. In addition, £181,000 has granted in bursaries to staff for advanced education, development and research, helping the department to continue providing outstanding services, and to recruit and retain staff of the highest quality.
