Story
Harry Winter is one of the last surviving air crew who flew Halifax Bombers during WW2. He was shot down in 1943 during his 19th mission on a night bombing raid to Frankfurt. Harry was badly injured and eventually spent the remainder of the war in a prisoner of war camp, until he escaped in 1945.
Harry will turn 100 years young on Saturday 21 May and has requested no birthday presents. Instead he's asked for donations to help fund much needed play facilities at Croydon University Hospital's brand-new Children’s Unit, which formally opened on 10 May 2022.
Harry is a proud Surrey Freemason and lives in Croydon. Since September 2021 Croydon Health Charity has been working in partnership with the Surrey Freemasons to fundraise for the 'Power of Play' appeal.
The Surrey Freemasons have organised fundraising events including a golf day, darts evening and book sales with individual lodges donating to the play appeal.
To date over £10,000 has been raised by the Surrey Freemasons and we are incredibly grateful for their support and for Harry's exceptional kindness.
