Story
On April 21st, 2024, I will be running the London Marathon while pushing my step mum Karen in her wheelchair for the entire 26.2 miles!!
Karen was an extremely active person who competed in triathlons, marathons, long distance runs, open water swims, and many more physically demanding activities. Karen’s lifelong dream was to run the London Marathon and was one of the few goals she had left to achieve. Tragically, Karen was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease at the young age of 52, which has prevented her from being able to achieve her goal of running the London Marathon.
Early-onset Alzheimer's is an uncommon form of dementia that affects people younger than age 65. Around 5% to 6% of people with Alzheimer's disease develop symptoms before age 65.
I have decided to help make Karen's dream a reality by pushing her in her wheelchair for the entirety of the iconic 26.2-mile course. Although she is no longer able to run herself, we will be crossing the finish line together.
I am fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society in honour of Karen and the over 850,000 other people in the UK living with dementia. The Alzheimer's Society provides crucial support, research, and advocacy to help change the landscape for people affected by dementia.
I would be incredibly grateful for any support to reach my fundraising goal for this cause that is close to our heart.
Let's run for Karen and the millions fighting dementia.
