Story
We are raising money in memory of our mother Elizabeth Anne Ridley, who died from a battle with cancer in July 2024. She was proud of the work and care undertaken by The Cove at Royal Cornwall Hospital which also helped two of her children in their cancer battles a few years previously.
Our mother was an exceptionally brave and beautiful woman who raised nine children with unwavering love and steadiness despite suffering from ME & Fibromyalgia and being widowed with three of her children still under 16. She faced her personal health battles with grace and courage, and also endured with great faith the distress of three of her children fighting and surviving cancer, one of whom also survived a major stroke.
She is known in Truro, Cornwall, particularly for her vibrancy, elegance and great kindness to those she met and befriended. She is greatly missed by her large family and friends, so to donate to the causes she held dear would be a great tribute to a wonderful and irreplaceable lady who is forever in our hearts.
About The Cove :
Money donated to The Cove Amenity fund is for the benefit of patients, volunteers and staff who visit and work in The Cove. We can purchase additional items to make patient and visitors more comfortable,
- Cushions because patients wanted some additional support and comfort whilst in the waiting area and during appointments.
- A highchair because parents of young children whose mums or dads are having treatment bring the children in to the Centre to be away from the business of a clinical setting.
- Treadmill and exercise equipment for the new Physiotherapy Service to help keep patients active and build their strength and fitness both during and after treatment.
- Electric fans to ensure the comfort of patients during hot weather or for those who may be experiencing hot flushes due to hormonal treatments.
In addition, it enables staff and volunteers to attend specialist courses in order to keep up to date with current practice and extend their existing skills.
