Story
Having turned the big 3-0 this year, I have decided to set myself another couple of fundraising challenges!
This year I will be raising money for RSABI. RSABI provides practical, emotional and financial support to all people involved in the Scottish agricultural industry. Times are tough for everyone, with farming being the biggest sector for suicides, more needs to be done to help raise awareness and make sure everyone knows it’s okay to talk. For what has been one of the wettest winters on record, the spring has not let up and has been exhausting both physically and mentally, with the challenges the weather has thrown at us all, it has meant spring ploughing/sowing, and lambing and calving has turned what should be a very rewarding time of the year into what has felt like a battle.
In recent years RSABI HAS seen a shift in the type of support needed – from predominantly financial to practical and emotional, with most people needing a combination of support to move forward.
The first challenge I will be taking on is climbing the height of Everest- on Bennachie! That equates to climbing up and down 17 times to reach Everest’s 8,848m. All done within 24 hours just to make this more exciting!
The second challenge will be a coast to coast walk, starting in Aberdeen and finishing in Morar on the west coast. This is route I, along with my family, have travelled countless times over the years with owning a house over there. And with what would have been my dad’s 70th this year, a route he took a few times a month latterly due to working offshore. I will be avoiding the busiest of roads so will be traversing my way across some of the most beautiful countryside we have, with a rough route pinned out looking to be around 195 miles. This will be done mostly camping with an aim to complete in 6-7 days.
Any donations are hugely appreciated for such a worthwhile cause
