Double amputee's 5km Swim fundraiser for the Manchester United Foundation and Scottys Little Soldiers

Rick Clement is raising money for Manchester United Foundation

Great North Swim 2026 · 12 June 2026 ·

Manchester United Foundation uses the passion for Manchester United to benefit communities and improve the lives of young people through: educational programmes, promoting a greater understanding of social issues through education, and by developing unique partnerships with like-minded organisations.

Story

Hi it's Rick, I'm a former Sergeant in the Duke of Lancaster Regiment who lost both my legs and damaged my right arm in an Improvised Explovise Device attack in Afghanistan 2010.

I'm back again for an even bigger swim this year. In 2024 I did 1 mile, in 2025 I did 2 miles so in 2026 I will be completing the 5km (3.1mile) course and as you can imagine with no legs it will be quite the challenge.

This will raise money for 2 amazing charities whose support for young people makes a huge impact.

My work with MUDSA has shown me the great impact that the Foundation have on young people in the community. Please check out https://www.mufoundation.org to read more about their great work.

Secondly as an Armed forces veteran I want to raise money for Scottys little soldiers who help bereaved children and their families after losing someone from the Armed Forces. Read more about their vital support here https://www.scottyslittlesoldiers.co.uk

Please donate if you can. Every penny makes a difference but don't forget that simply sharing and spreading the word helps too.

Let's smash this target together!
