Story
Hi my name is Des and on 5th October 2024 I plan to take on my biggest challenge to date, by running the Official Wainwright’s Coast to Coast path from St Bees Head in the west, to Robin Hood’s Bay overlooking the North Sea.
In doing so, I am hoping to complete 7 marathons in 7 days. This is a huge step up from the half and full marathons I've taken part in before. This will be a challenge like no other – not naturally fit, I take on such tasks to prove that when we put our mind to it, the human body can do absolutely anything we want it to.
Inspiration to take on this outrages challenge came to me after a minor health scare, where a realisation that my real passion in life is fundraising and supporting good causes. And by the fact that I feel I'm not living, if I'm not showing the determination it takes to train for something so...BIG!
A big advocate for mental health and self-development through a running group I lead in Nottingham, I speak openly about my ups and downs and personal development. I see C2C as another chance for me to inspire others into making positive changes.
In the last 8 years I have raised nearly £200k by taking part in walking and running challenges, creating community events and supporting others... believe me, helping others is always the first and easiest way to feel good about ourselves.
All kind of support will be most welcome and sincerely appreciated – it will also make what is going to be an extremely tough training schedule a little bit easier to bear.
All monies raised will go to Footprints Conductive Education Centre, a Nottingham based charity which transforms the lives of children living with mobility and communication difficulties across the East Midlands.
I recently spent time at the Iona School, where I witnessed first hand the incredible work they do. Within minutes I was hooked! I challenge anyone to check Footprints out, and to come away not blissfully inspired by what they do.
