SUPPORT MY 24-HOUR WEST HIGHLAND WAY CHALLENGE FOR MARY’S MEALS
Hi, my name is Cameron.
I’m a 13 year-old from Edinburgh and I really enjoy riding my bike. Last year on the BBC Pudsey Show, I saw that a young kid just like me had raised thousands of pounds for children in need by riding his bike from his house to his grandparents in the Netherlands.
That inspired me to do my own cycle challenge. This June, my dad and I are going to ride the West Highland Way non-stop in aid of the charity, Mary’s Meals. This global charity gives a daily meal to over 2.4 million of the world's poorest children. Doing something for charity always makes me feel better but also reminds myself of how fortunate I am.
The West Highland Way is a 95-mile route of mountainous terrain that winds its way from Milngavie just to the north of Glasgow all the way to the west coast town of Fort William, home of Ben Nevis and Scottish downhill mountainbiking!
The West Highland Way involves a staggering 4,312m (12,143f) of ascent and includes the Devil’s Staircase (548m). Hikers normally take between 4-7 days to complete the trail – or 3-4 days to complete it by bike. I’ll be aiming to cycle the whole route in just one day (24 hours).
My little legs are going to be doing the hard work. To help, all you are kindly asked to do is donate as little or as much as you can to help give another child a daily meal.
