Today is World Animal Day - a day to celebrate all animals right across the globe. If you love cats and want to do something special to support them today in your local area, please consider donating to our latest Just Giving appeal. Your support will help us achieve our vision where every cat has the best possible life because they are protected, cared for and understood by everyone. Thank you.
Chilly and Icy were allegedly found abandoned one mile away from our Bridgend Adoption Centre on a rainy cold day. They arrived at the centre wet, freezing cold, and infested in fleas. Chilly was very flat and minutes away from death. Fortunately, our vet was on site at the time, she quickly gave them honey diluted with warm water to raise their glucose levels, they were then wrapped up warmly and rushed to the vets to receive lifesaving care.
Chilly and Icy were only 4 weeks old at the time! Although we were hopeful about Icy pulling though, no one expected Chilly to; we were all braced for sad news. Chilly however proved himself to be a real fighter and we were all relieved the following morning to hear that he had survived the night. After a few days at the vets, they were well enough to be discharged into our care. With lots of TLC from our cat carers and our fosterer Eliza, Chilly and Icy went on to make a full recovery.
Sadly, this isn't the only case of abandoned kittens we have had to deal with. Three weeks earlier a litter of six, five-week-old kittens were abandoned half a mile away from the centre on a busy road. Fortunately, they were all captured safely and bought into care.
We are also on standby to admit a litter of four young abandoned kittens which are currently in the care of our vets receiving treatment for cat flu. On the 12.10.23 we admitted another 8 kittens allegedly abandoned in a box, they were in a terrible condition, starving hungry and caked in their own faeces.
We don't receive any government funding and are totally reliant on donations to help unwanted cats and kittens like Chilly and Icy. We know times are hard but every £1 helps. The minimum donation is £2, please donate if you can to help us carry on caring for unwanted cats and kittens.”
