Story
On the water or in the gym, our Boat Club will row 2,025,000m in a week, fundraising for Kidney Research UK.
That's the same distance as 48 marathons back-to-back-to-back!
In the week it takes the ROW2025 team to row 2,025,000 metres, there will be 140 people that develop kidney failure in the UK alone. Kidney issues change lives. Last year, one of the members of our Boat Club was diagnosed with a rare kidney condition, having to spend a week in hospital. Diagnoses like this one can mean becoming reliant on medication, demanding changes to diet and in the extreme, becoming one of the 30,000 people in the country dependent on dialysis to stay alive.
Inspired by our city being the UK City of Culture 2025, ROW2025 is an ambitious ultra-endurance event designed to bring the rowing community in Bradford together whilst raising money for a great cause. Bradford Grammar School Boat Club, whose average age is just 14, are leading this monumental challenge, assisted by teachers, parents, Old Bradfordians and supporters including our friends at Bradford Amateur Rowing Club.
2,025km is a long way, especially as the total of 170 hours needed to complete this epic challenge needs to be balanced with school work, exam revision and training for rowing competitions!
WHAT ARE WE RAISING MONEY FOR?
Kidney Research UK funds cutting edge research, dedicated to understanding the causes of kidney disease, its treatments and finding a cure to stop it. The charity works with UK patients through mental health campaigns, support groups and information days whilst also playing a key role in lobbying the government to ensure doctors have sufficient funding necessary to change lives.
Help our young rowers to cover the distance between Bradford and Africa by donating to support our cause.
