Story
My husband David sadly passed away last year. He had many disabling illnesses that confined him to a wheelchair and made day-to-day activities very difficult.
10 years ago he had the opportunity to be paired with a Canine Partner, a dog specifically trained to help with the everyday activities which many of us take for granted. Crunchie, a labradoodle with a massive character, arrived in our lives and David became a changed man.
Sadly Crunchie became ill and in 2022 he had to be put to sleep. David was devastated….he had lost his helper and friend. A light had gone out in all our lives.
After David died I decided that, in his and Crunchie’s memory, I wanted to raise money to help Canine Partners continue their work in providing amazing dogs to transform the lives of people with disabilities.
When I was 74 I did a Sky Dive to raise money for Canine Partners, so this year on 3rd May (David’s birthday) I am going to do a Wing Walk at Old Warden near Bedford. I am 84 years old so this will be another challenge for me.
I am hoping that you will be able to support me in this fund raising and would like to thank you in advance for whatever you can give.
Our amazing dogs bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks. They are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and fetching help in an emergency. Our life-transforming dogs also provide psychological and social benefits including increased independence, confidence, social interaction and self-esteem.
