Story

Running the London Marathon again! 🎩🎩🎩

I’m off to London again dressed in my full funeral uniform. This is something I didn’t think I would be doing again and especially so soon! I could not beleive the response I received last year; the generous donations, great support but for me, the most important part was the conversations opened around a difficult topic.

This year I’m running slower, hopefully chatting to more people on route and continuing to help support the Dying Matters Campaign.

Last year my campaign blew up massively. There were stories in the local newspaper, I had two radio interviews, the local community woke up to my story on their local BBC news and featured in some TikTok’s that gained a million views 🙈 It’s going to be much more low key this year, I was well out of my comfort zone!

Guinness world records didn’t accept my record attempt last year as my uniform isn’t “standardised”.

2024

I have been a Funeral Director for the last 14 years and have decided to run the London Marathon dressed in my full uniform including top hat 😄.

I have applied to Guinness World Records in the hope that they might accept me, but if they don’t, I will run as the “Fastest known Funeral Director in full uniform over marathon distance”.

I am hoping to raise funds for Hospice UK and to raise awareness, especially for their Dying Matters campaign. Over the years I have spoken with thousands of families about their loved ones and so often they are unaware of what they should be planning to honour someone’s wishes.

I also have so many people come to talk to me about what they want - how they want their life celebrated and not mourned.

Death is very final but it shouldn’t be hidden away. We should talk about our wishes and our beliefs, about birth and death. The people you love are the ones that have to piece together a funeral based on guesses not wishes. This is an area I feel passionately about after seeing so many families not knowing where to start with what their loved one would have wanted.

I would be really grateful for any donation, big or little, and please do feel free to share my just giving page to spread the word!
