Story
Anyone who knows me knows I've been plagued with knee problems for quite some time now, numerous surgeries all before the age of 30 - but it doesn't stop the itch for adventure! So it got me thinking - what doesn't require knees? Canoeing!
Despite paddling on the river Wye being my only experience, on Wednesday 28th August 2013 I will be hopping on a flight to Canada and hitchhiking south to Lake Itasca, Minnesota - the source of the Mississippi River. I plan to buy an open canoe, throw my camping gear on board I will have a 90 day visa to paddle the 2350 miles all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
During this challenge I hope to raise as much money and awareness as possible for The Pied Piper Appeal. After working closely with them for the past year (on mostly Superhero events) I have seen what amazing things they are doing for the children's ward of Gloucester Hospital so it excites and motivates me to try and help by canoeing the mighty Mississippi River.
Just writing this has really started the nerves jangling, I have no idea how this will go, what I will paddle into or even if I will be physically capable of doing it. There's only one way to find out.
