Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Scotland – Faroe Islands 2009

PATRICK WINTERTON and MICK BERWICK attempted and succeded in making the first unaided kayak crossing from Scotland to the Faroe Islands in Aid of the RNLI. Few have tried, they are the first to succeed.

We made it. Just. We were unbelievably lucky with the weather in that the wind only picked up when we were 30 km from the south of the Faroes.  The last twenty km took ten hours and there wasn't much left in the tank, although we thought that half way across.

Many thanks to all of you who followed the trip and especially to those who donated to the RNLI, you can still donate here and this page will remain open for anyone who wants to help us continue to raise funds.  The competition has closed and the winner will be announced shortly.  The plan is to present the prize at some stage during the Cornish Storm Gathering  in September.  The exact day/time will be posted on www.paddlefaroes.com

Apologies to those of you who were following our SPOT position over the final hours. My fault as I forgot to reboot the device after a 24 hr stint.  We were on for a 66hr final crossing before the Faroes tides pushed us from 7 to 14 km off shore.

We can highly recomend a trip to the Faroes.

So please dig deep and show your support for the RNLI and our epic crossing!

Many thanks

Patrick and Mick

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
