We provide suicide prevention resources to help prevent suicide in the UK

Story

Help us fight the fear of talking about mental health at work in an industry where employees are 5x more depressed than the general UK population.

The above was just one of the shocking figures we recently read from a report by digital industry body BIMA. The tech industry is still experiencing a gender imbalance with 83% of the workers being men and knowing that suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45, we’re pretty worried about what these facts mean for our sector.

To put this into perspective, as a creative agency of 7, at least 3 of us will suffer from anxiety or depression at some point in our lives. However the guys are statistically less likely to seek help than women.

So we’re trying to make a change. As a team we have committed to doing a Tough Mudder for charity. Our challenge may be brave and difficult but we don't think talking about mental health should be. If we as a small agency can try to make a change, we know our other tech friends can too. The tech industry simply isn't doing enough to tackle the issue so we hope our efforts can get the conversation started and inspire other companies to get onboard.

We have chosen to support The Campaign Against Living Miserably. CALM exists to prevent male suicide, because three in every four UK suicides are male. This is a problem for everyone, so whilst their services are aimed at supporting men in crisis, they aim to work with the whole of society on campaigns to change culture.

About the charity

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.
