Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be acting as part of the support team for our group of injured serving and ex-service men and women, many of whom will have recently sustained their injuries. The group will include single and double amputees, others who have sustained brain, sight and other injuries, as well as those suffering from PTSD and other mental health problems.
Standing at 5895 metres Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in and the world’s highest freestanding mountain. The trek to the summit will present a serious physical challenge of fitness and endurance, as well as of mental strength – even for the able bodied. During the six day trek we will climb 3,455 metres and cover a distance of 25 kilometres, experiencing five climate zones and temperatures ranging from 30oC+ to sub-zero.
Although those taking part will have recovered sufficiently from their injuries to be able to undertake this challenge, the association would not be able to run the event without the back up of a support team. I will be required to provide actual physical help to our beneficiaries from time to time, as well as to offer encouragement when they are experiencing difficulties.
