Each year we challenge ourselves and take on an adventurous expedition that tests us.  This year, with the start of the LONDON Regiment Welfare and Benevolent Fund, we have decided to go that extra mile (well, in fact an extra couple of thousand miles!!), and are undertaking an arduous and challenging overland trip to Timbuckto, with the aim of raising money for this really worthy cause.

There are a number of very good, very caring charities already out there for our Armed Forces, but they are national and committ to the assistance of those high profile very serious cases where they can have the greatest impact on the welfare of the seriously injured or their families.  It can take time for the large charities to swing into action.  The LONDON Regiment Welfare and Benevolent Fund has been created to help almost immeadiatly, with all those things that a large charity does'nt see.  To proivide the parcels from home, with the toiletries, books and the odd packet of sweets!  To keep the families in touch with both the Regiment and each other.  Things such as bringing the families of our soldiers on tour in Afghanistan together, to help them relieve the pressure by being with Wives and Mothers who also have loved ones away on a dangerous and demanding tour.  To give them, their children and parents a chance to talk with others who are going through the same stressful time as them and of course to give immeadite help to a family if the unthinkable actually happens.  Unfortunately, this all takes money.
