Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
My name's Graham Brown and along with my SSE Outage Planning colleagues Candy Thorp, Kirsty Timney, Abdallah Abdaelbaset and friends Clayton Thorp, Grant Partridge and John Cuthbert we are going to conquer the highest peak in Britain.. Ben Nevis!
My mother survived two brain hemorrhages when she was young and is lucky to be alive. These injuries have meant that throughout most of her adult life she has suffered from epilepsy and bad balance amongst other brain related conditions. She has managed to cope pretty well, living with my father and working in his business as a receptionist. Unfortunately my father then took ill and now lives in a care home with frontal lobe Dementia, so she has to fend for herself. She has done pretty well for herself, scraping by on housing benefit and living in rented furnished accomodation. She has now been offered a much nicer, warmer but smaller and more appropriate flat which is a lot cheaper, however is unfurnished.
It was going to take her a long time to build up money to buy essential goods such as a fridge, freezer, washing machine, kettle and other things that you often take for granted. Luckily, she came across the fantastic Margaret and Angela from the Renfrewshire Head Injury Service within Quarriers. They have given her all white goods as well as carpetting and furnishing the flat for her and sorting out her removal costs. They also provide a fantastic service, giving my mum helpful information about her condition that she's never been given before, and hosting a social gathering every week which she thoroughly enjoys.
You can find out about their good work at http://www.quarriers.org.uk/what-we-do/all-services/renfrewshire-head-injury-service/
Me and my colleagues want to show our appreciation by raising money by climbing Ben Nevis on the 5th of June 2015, and we'd like to have your help!
