Last year, Joshua Davies, a high school friend of mine passed away after a long struggle with a brain tumour, and I would like to raise funds and awareness to help stop others from going through what he had to experience. I am also keen to support Special Olympics Ireland, a great charity that aims to improve quality of life for intellectually disabled individuals through sport and outdoor provision.
On 6th July 2011 I am going to be embarking on One Wheel One Ireland, my expedition to cycle 1000 miles around the circumference of Ireland, on a 36" Unicycle!
The ride will take 21 days, approximately 60 miles riding per day. I will be travelling with a rucksack on my back and hopefully the support of two wheeled cyclists and or a vehicle.
I am aiming to raise 1p per rotation of my huge, 36" Unicycle wheel as I circumference Ireland. That is £5572.56 for BrainTumourUK AND Special Olympics Ireland. You could help me achieve this by supporting me with just 1p for every mile I will cycle.
Please feel free to choose which charity you wish to help me raise funds for.Donating through Just Giving will ensure your support goes straight to Brain Tumour UK, or follow the link to my Special Olympics Ireland page to donate direct to them directly. www.specialolympics.ie/onewheel
If you are keen to support me but want to support both charities, please get in touch with me personally and I can add your details to a sponsership form instead (all donations will be split)
About the charities and their causes:
Special Olympics Irelands mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. www.specialolympics.ie
Brain Tumour UK funds research, provides support and raises awareness for everyone affected by a Brain Tumour. Statistics show that Brain Tumours are the the biggest cancer killers of children! 16,000 individuals are diagnosed every year, with merely 12% of males and 15% of females surviving longer than 5 years! And yet, Brain Tumour care is still the most underfunded of all cancers! Let do something to change these staggering facts that make reality so devestating for everyone affected by a Brain Tumour. http://www.braintumouruk.org.uk
