Story
In spring 2012 my mum Rocca was diagnosed with cancer. You see cancer affecting so many people around you and yet you foolishly assume it will never happen to you or your family. As I write, mum is undergoing her chemotherapy treatment following a big operation a few months ago.
The silver lining of this period in our lives has been witnessing the incredible support given by all of our family, friends and colleagues. Everyone has demonstrated their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to attend to my family for which we are forever grateful.
Running in the London marathon has always been something I have dreamt of doing and so I was delighted when I was invited to run it in 2013 for St Richards Hospice, a charity (for whom Mum serves as chairman) which cares for patients and families in Worcestershire who are living with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Established in 1984, the Hospice provides care and support for 2,300 patients every year. Their work in our county is invaluable and I'd like to do my bit to support them.
In the "run-up" to the marathon I will be raising money through as many different outlets as possible so whenever you can, join in and have some fun!
I have always said the Wilkie family were invincible, and I am proud to say that thanks to all of your love and support we are more invincible than ever. Please dig deep and help St Richards spread that same help and support to other families who need it too.
Thanks, Oli :)
