I lost my Father in 1996, after six courageous years fighting a battle with Cancer.   He fought long and hard through several operations and chemo, including undergoing research trials.

Sadly, my Mother was taken ill in 2010 and after a mild stroke, was eventually diagnosed with Cancer.   The news came too late  for any treatment to be effective in prolonging life or even easing the pain of the last days of her life.

I took the 'London 2 Brighton Challenge' and walked 100 kms through the weekend of 24th / 25th May 2014.    We started in the rain and it continued raining which led to thick mud for much of the walk.  We finally saw the sun as we approached Brighton !   I.

t took me 32 hours, considering two stops at the 'First Aid' Tents to dress blisters around my ankles brought about by a heat rash.

Thoughts of my Mother and Father kept me going .... I miss you both every day.

Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding and relies on donations.  The organisation is at the heart of cancer research, they fund the work of more than 4,500 researchers, doctors and nurses throughout the UK.   Their work involves:

Diagnosis - three national screening programmes for bowel, breast and cervical cancers.

Treatment - run pioneering clinical trials aimed at finding safe treatments with fewer side efects.

Information  - provide much needed information and support to cancer patients and their families.
