Buenos Dias!
Thanks for visiting our page, as some of you may know Dave, Andy and I are planning on driving a moto taxi (weird tuk tuk like contraption first invented in Peru and perfected no where...) across South America. Its top speed is 70kph if conditions are perfect, e.g. downhill, and apparently will do 1kph uphill. We have 2 weeks to get from Hyancayo in Peru (home of the Wankas, honestly) to Asuncion in Paraguay (home of the last Nazi cannibals...), by any route possible as long as it's not a motorway because that would be just too easy, and also, there aren't any...
So here comes the fundraising bit - whilst we would love for you to just give us some money * we didn't think you would part with your cash that easily so we will be undertaking a series of grueling events to appeal to your generous sides. Rest assured we have covered all the costs ourselves and all money
raised will go straight to the Operation Smile to help children in
South America born with cleft palates (we hope to stop by one of the projects they are running en route to see how all your money is really changing children's lives).
In a matter of hours we've managed to invent 3 big ruses with which to convince you to part with cash for needy kids:
1. BIKE - First up is Andy....
UPDATE - Andy has now completed his challenge, having very nearly eaten all the breakfast, the last few sausages defeated him, see all his photos on facebook
He is going to be cycling 300km from London to Bolton, overnight, without stopping, and for why? To eat the biggest full English breakfast in the WORLD** at Mario's cafe. All this will be happening over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th October so get sponsoring. If he manages to eat the whole thing (10 eggs, 10 sausages, 10 rashers of bacon, 10 slices of toast, five black pudding slices, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans) then he gets it for free (aswell as the heart attack) and will break the record, but needs to do it in sub 20 minutes! If he manages it Dave and I will personally donate the cost of breakfast to this page.
2. BEER WAX PARTY - Dave, Andy and I will also be hosting a party on 17th October at our house (Stockwell), there will be free food and drinks and brilliant entertainment, all we ask is that you make a donation to this page and write in the comment that you want to come so we have an idea of numbers. Anyone who turns up and has not donated will be made to sit on the naughty step and may be asked to wax a part of Dave. Which leads me on to the entertainment....
We haven't quite nailed down exactly what we will do on the night, but we are almost certain it will involve auctioning off parts of Dave to wax, karaoke, a trampoline and multiple centurions of beer. I may even dye my hair ginger if the price is right... We will be taking suggestions on stupid things we can do along our journey for your pledged cash too.
3. GRAB A GUAPA(O) - Details of the AMAZING speed dating night coming soon!
AND THE RACE.... that's all before we even get moving. If you can't attend we still want to get your sponsorship in every creative way we can and the trip is the ideal food-for-thought. If you want to sponsor us 1p per kilometer, £1 per wrong turn, £10 per alpaca seen (alpaca photo taken, that's for you Sophie), £100 per breakdown more than 300km from the nearest popluation, £1000 per inappropriate spanish phrase repeated to an OAP and captured on camera... then please just suggest away!
---- PLEASE NOTE: We will be the first people ever to attempt this, success is far from guaranteed so dig deep! -------
* Please feel free to do that, remember Dave is recovering from major surgery, Heather hasn't driven in 10 years and Andy blows things up for a living.... It's not going to be easy!
** That's a fact, according to the Guiness world records team
Here's the science bit:
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Also, I work at JustGiving so Neil (man who looks after the money) has promised to match what you donate, so please dig deep :-)
