“Lord, help me feed these children”.
Lindewe is a woman I met in South Africa, during my sabbatical. She currently wakes up each day and asks the Lord ‘help me feed these children – and he does!’ This is what Lindewe told me in November when she was feeding 43 children, mostly orphans due to HIVaids, on a daily basis.
In January I began raising the profile of this remarkable woman and the target I’d set myself of raising £5000 to help build a care centre in Nongoma, Zululand, South Africa, which will enable orphaned children to be cared for and fed. The Shine Foundation, (www.shinefoundation.org.uk) for whom my old colleague Steve Mantle is now working, will build this centre on land, which has been given to them by the king of Zululand - in recognition of the work they are doing among vulnerable children.
Amazingly, God has already answered this request for £5000 – thank you all. This means, however, I now need to ask some hard questions, but also answer what God is calling me to do – pray for wisdom can be added top your list!
I am committed still to running in the Bristol Half Marathon in September, and so have raised my target to £6000 as I await clearer information as to the need in Zululand. If I raise beyond £6000 I am proposing to add the extra to our WEBA New Churches Fund – so lease only now give if you are comfortable with that. To me it is a classic opportunity for multiplication – I can’t directly plant many Churches, but others could.
