Story
Project Trust: Uganda 2008/2009
My blog is at www.nicolainuganda.blogspot.com
Welcome to my fundraising page!
My name is Nicola Cameron and I'm 17 years old. I'm currently in 6th year at Dunblane High School studying English, Biology, Geography and Business Management.
In August 2008 I will be travelling to Uganda, Africa to teach English and Science to 5 - 9 years olds in a primary school. This will be in the community of Bulenga which is 30 minutes outside the capital of Kampala. I will also have the opportunity to set up extra curricular activities, such as arts & crafts and sport.
I'll be working alongside the local people which means living exactly as they do, ie. surviving without technology and at times running water and electricity.
The charity sending me is Project Trust (www.projecttrust.org.uk) who select school-leavers during a 5-day residential activity based course on the beautiful Isle of Coll. All the overseas projects are a huge benefit to the community and don't deprive local people of jobs - since the job can only be fulfilled by an English speaking volunteer, such as myself.
However, before I can participate in this once in a lifetime experience I must achieve my target, which even though seems very far away, i'm determined to get there! Through individual sponsored events, in-school events, larger community events, approaching trust funds and other fundraising ideas I hope to meet this tough target. Details of all fundraising events will be posted on this site.
This money covers flights, insurance, overseas support, food etc.
Donating through this page is simple, fast, secure and if you are a UK taxpayer you can add on an extra 28% without it costing you a penny over the amount you specified, thanks to giftaid.
Any donation no matter how small will be a great help and really appreciated!
Thank you for visiting my page! =)
Nicola

16/09/07 My first fundraising event has been planned! Myself and Svenja, another volunteer, are providing lunch and refreshments at the Dunblane Community Market at the Victoria Hall on Sunday 30th September. So come along and visit us and have a bite to eat from 11am to 4pm, we'll have freshly made soup, sandwiches, cakes and a range of soft drinks!
12/10/07 This week I've been raising money by childminding during the October holiday week. I've also been collecting coin-filled smartie tubes that were kindly donated, thank you to everyone who handed them in!
24/10/07 I'm puting the money I earned from babysitting towards my project and the charity collection boxes are finally ready, so i'll be distributing them to the local Dunblane shops in the next few days =)

23/02/08 Today I took in the eight charity boxes that I gave out to local Dunblane shops and after a lot of counting I can happily say that the total collected (mostly from coppers!) was £156! I'll be distributing them out again this week.
11/04/08 The Victoria Hall Tearoom has been booked for the 1st June so I can provide lunch and refreshments at the Dunblane community Market. This was a great success back in September, only this time I'm doing it without svenja, so double the work and double the panic but I'm really looking forward to it!
28/04/08 I have created a new blog website at www.nicolainuganda.blogspot.com where I'll be writing regular diaries and news while I'm away, along with some photos.
23/05/08 A big thank you to the Hazel's Footprints Trust who have awarded me £600 towards my gap year! I sent in an application way back in January then met up with one of the trustees for an informal chat last month and I am now an official Footprinter. www.hazelsfootprints.org
