Story
From the NHS’s 72nd Birthday on the 5th July 2020 you will be offered the unique opportunity to nominate a name to be hand written onto family-owned Aircraft Restoration Company’s iconic, blue Spitfire as it takes flight to raise money for NHS Charities Together. During this time the Photo-Reconnaissance Spitfire will also be carrying a very special message: ‘THANK U NHS’.
From your own name, to one of a family member or close friend, you can become a part of the NHS Spitfire story and help us to say 'Thank You' by nominating a name to be written upon the aircraft's airframe. By doing so you will also be helping to raise money for the incredible people within our NHS. There is room for 80,000 names, and as these are added to the Spitfire, the UK will be able to watch the extraordinary visual spectacle unfold. A kind gesture that will donate to a great cause.
The aim is to lift the spirits of those across the UK, many of whom are still living in some form of isolation, whilst also thanking the hospitals, communities and individuals who have been at the forefront of getting the country through the pandemic.
During the next few months, the team at Aircraft Restoration Company will be carefully planning flight routes across the UK local communities and hospitals. Flight routes will be updated via the Aircraft Restoration Company Instagram & Facebook pages as well as at www.aircraftrestorationcompany.com/nhsspitfire

Extra Information about 'L' the Blue Spitfire:
During the 1940’s, Spitfire funds were set up by local communities around the UK and commonwealth countries to encourage a sense of purpose within the community.
Our Blue Spitfire PL983 nicknamed ‘L’ was specifically built and used for photo reconnaissance during the conflict, carrying cameras instead of weapons. It will now once again embody the sense of freedom and togetherness that the Spitfire and Spitfire funds it did then. This Spitfire has an interesting history, which includes being air-raced by the famous female ATA pilot Lettice Curtis. It therefore only seems appropriate that Lettice’s own signature can already be seen on the side of this particular Spitfire, leading the way for the 80,000 extra names to be added whilst raising money for an important cause.
A true modern day Spitfire fund.
