Story
Hello :]
If you live in Edinburgh you've probably at some point found yourself walking past someone with a pile of blankets, a cardboard sign and a cup/hat/box for collecting money sat on the side of the street on Princes Street/North Bridge/Waverley Bridge.
If you're anything like me, you've possibly found that you're never too sure how to respond - change, chips, chat or other?! I think, given the choice, we'd all want to give "real change" rather than "loose change" - but how?
Bethany Christian Trust (BCT) is an Edinburgh-based charity seeking to do just that...instead of putting a sticking plaster on the problem, "Bethany relieves suffering and meets long-term needs of homeless & vulnerable people... Our vision is to see individuals and families enjoying full and healthy lives within their local community.
As well as addressing the symptoms of homelessness, Bethany’s approach helps people to address the root causes of their problems. With Bethany’s support vulnerable people are encouraged to tackle underlying issues that surround homelessness... This allows people to move forward in their lives and to reach their full potential." On 29th September BCT are organising a sponsored abseil down Barns Ness Lighthouse, near Dunbar (Scotland) and I have the fun, exciting and slightly terrifying opporunity of taking part - cool! Thank you very, very much, Mim :] |
