Story
On the 13 October 2019 I am joining a group of women from across the UK food sector to take on the Thousand Trees challenge. We are uniting to support Farm Africa, who deliver sustainable farming projects, helping farmers in eastern Africa grow more, sell more, and sell for more, while preserving the environment for years to come.
Our challenge will take place in Kanungu in western Uganda. Coffee is Uganda’s most valuable crop and Farm Africa’s coffee project in Kanungu is addressing the issues impeding women and young Ugandans from setting up profitable coffee businesses. Farm Africa is delivering training in coffee production, strengthening the capacity of agribusinesses and cooperatives to support coffee farmers, and cultivating young and female farming leaders.
The challenge is to plant 1,000 trees, across 36 households, and over 80 acres of farmland in just under three days! These fruit trees will grow to shelter the coffee trees, boost soil quality and provide families with additional food and income. As well as physically planting trees, the Thousand Trees challenge team are fundraising. I’d love to raise £3,000+ towards a team target of £75,000 in support of Farm Africa’s innovative projects in eastern Africa, supporting farmers to lift themselves and their communities out of poverty.
Anything you can give will be a great help.
Thanks for your support!
