The BHF and their research leads to making scientific breakthroughs, which ensured Miles stood a fighting chance to be here today. At 8 weeks old we found out Miles had a heart murmur. We were told many babies are born with this and grow out of it. Unfortunately, this was not the case for Miles. Over the first year of his life he underwent extensive testing which uncovered his heart conditions and their severity. In November of 2018 and after many appointments at Stepping Hill and Manchester Children's Hospital we were told that Miles was diagnosed with 2 VSD's (hole in the heart) and RVOTO (a growth/ blockage, obstructing blood flow). Miles had to have surgery within a couple of months. He underwent open heart surgery on February 22nd 2019 at Alder Hey. Miles still has a small VSD and potentially the RVOTO may return, but, without the research and technology, his continued progress would not happen. Miles - our little fighter!
