Story

MFCitC COAST 2 COAST CHALLENGE

The Challenge

5 working colleagues will be taking on the challenge of walking the 192 miles, coast to coast in May to raise funds to provide 1200 free places of holiday activity days during the school’s summer holiday.

Our progress will covered by a daily report with Alistair Brownlee on Radio Tees live.

Visit www.coast2coast.co.uk for the full breakdown of the walk!!!

The Challengers

Malcolm Hett, George Cooke, David Maude, Michael Longstaff and Andy Jennings.

The Walk

The route starts with a foot in the Irish sea at St Bee’s in the Lake District and concludes on the North Yorkshire coast line atRobinHoodsBay. Our aim is to do the total distance within 12 days walking an average of 16 miles each day.  On at least 3 of the days the team will be walking around 23 miles.

The Target

Our aim is to raise around £10k in sponsorship which will go towards offering local (less advantaged) children from local schools the opportunity to take part in a varied program of activities throughout the school holidays of July and August.  200 places each week will be on offer and children will be occupied between 9am and 5pm each week day.

Activities

A program of sporting and educational activities including day trips out, will be offered to children aged from 6-14 years old.  If funds permit, a lunch of health option foods and refreshments will also be provided as part of the scheme each day.

Our Aims

Our aims are to offer the opportunity for children less privileged to partake in holiday activities, supporting single parents and children from troubled backgrounds.

Encourage children away from the street corners and away from the front of the TV and computer games.

Enhance the governments aim to increase child participation and reduce obesity.
