Story

As all highly tuned athletes will know, preparation is king of the ring. I've been running and hauling tyres through the Siberian like snowy forests of lower Pirbright and shadow boxing in the spare room mirror (and yes, the boy still has the all moves, the wink, the moon walk and the jaw dropping breast stroke, followed by the wink once more).

I finally knew I was ready to take on the Aplastic Anaemia Trust Triathlon once again as I thundered up the steps of Wandsworth town hall, the blood rushing through my pumping veins; I punched the air and cried, to the amazement of the cooing mob, ‘NONI!’. And there it was. I'm back and I'm bad!

‘Risin' up, back on the street, did my time, took my chances… went the distance, now I'm back on my feet, just a man and his will to survive.’ Yet a few have gasped 'are you mad?', but fear not. I have the house in the country, been there and done the sports car, have the George Forman Lean, Mean, Grilling Machine so this is no controlled experiment of pulling of a mid life crisis. This is serious.

This is not just a selfless endeavour for one last experience of euphoric victory, like some has been old timer. Oh no. This is to help those that are less privileged than us. I don't want to finish, staring through puffy eyes all tired, sore and battered, knowing it was a hollow victory. I need your support and dig deep into your pockets to sponsor my valiant act and give your hard earned cash to those poor souls who need it and together we can improve their lives.

If I had a sports or talent agent (both under the circumstances are appropriate) he would give a rallying cry of 'SHOW ME THE MONEY' and I would echo his plea with 'GET ON WITH IT - JUST A FIVER WILL DO!'

If you don’t know the ins and outs; Aplastic anemia is a condition where bone marrow does not produce sufficient new cells to replenish blood cells. The term 'aplastic' means the marrow suffers from an aplasia that renders it unable to function properly. Anemia is the condition of having fewer red blood cells than normal, or fewer than needed to function properly. Typically, anemia refers to low red blood cell counts, but aplastic anemia patients have lower counts of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

As every good champ and ‘Survivor’ will know, ‘so many times, it happens too fast, you change your passion for glory. Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past, you must fight just to keep them alive!’ Indeed my friends and just so you know the depth of what this challenge entails; on Friday 15th June to Sunday 17th June I will be raising money to help those with this terrible disease by Swimming 1KM in the Serpentine at Hyde Park dodging the rubbish, running 10KM in the majestic surrounds of Hyde Park and breathing heavily out of my posterior and then cycling 80KM though France.

Dig deep as I am and show your support via the medium of the Great British Pound (£)! Na na, na, na na NAR!
