Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Mark and I are to embark on the Mac4x4, a 96 hour and upto 1000 mile gruelling off and on road challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Following last years success, and having raised over £1000 for Macmillan we would like to again test man and machine (well, Mark and I and the very tired Diggler) against everything nature can throw at us (well, nature which exists within 1000 miles of Wales).

Last year we faced nights camping in -10 deg C temperatures, Norovirus (Mark, not I), repeated stops for 'comfort breaks' at very short notice from Mark (see previous Norovirus), long queues at filling stations, 18 hour long days driving throughout the Welsh countryside and countless pasties and sausage rolls as we didn't have the time or the foresight to eat properly.

Last year we were honoured to have sponsorship from lots of businesses without which we would not have been able to reach such a great level of sponsorship and we would like to again offer the vehicle and us for any and all sponsorship opportunities. Whether you want your business name emblazoned on the side of diggler or tatooed on Mark's forehead, we are open to your offers.

We plan to have the car signwritten for the duration of the event and for at least 2 weeks before and 1 month after*, so please contact me if you would like to be immortalised by having your name, logo or anything else you can think of proudly driven around Sutton Coldfield and the wider area.

All the costs associated with entering this challenge are being paid for by us, every single penny of your donation will go directly to Macmillan

One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.

Macmillan do just that; Macmillan are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer, Macmillan also help carers, families and communities. They guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But they give so much more than medical help.

People need practical support at home, so Macmillan provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information though their cancer support specialists, website and trained professionals. People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs. They listen, they learn and they act to help people live with cancer.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
