Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I completed the marathon on 17th April 2011 - and have a medal to prove it! My legs ache but it was an amazing experience. Any further sponsorship is extremely welcome.
Pancreatic Cancer is a particularly aggressive form of the disease. Around 7,600 new cases are diagnosed each year, and of those who develop the disease around 80% of them will die within six months. It causes 5% of cancer deaths in the UK each year, yet merely receives 2% of the funding. The survival rate has remained relatively unchanged for forty years (5 year survival rates are around 3%). You can read more about this on the Pancreatic Cancer UK website.
It is rare in younger people, however my friend Gemma Harrison died in August 2010 of pancreatic cancer, and she was 27. You can read Gemma's story here. Gemma and I were at primary school together, so I thought it would be a good way to raise awareness, and money, for this very worthwhile cause.
I would really appreciate it if you could sponsor me to run the Virgin London Marathon 2011 so that I can do this.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. Also, I'd be so grateful for support on the day, if you live near London.
Thanks so much.
