Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, on 31 October, I'm going to walk on hot coals - I don't know why except that it's Hallowe'en and it's a spooky thing to do, not least because it involves removing my shoes, which is always a frightening prospect. I'm also raising money for a fantastic cause: Saint Ann's Hospice.
I'm not doing it alone, I'm supporting my future brother-in-law Joel Oxberry (http://www.justgiving.com/Joel-Oxberry1) who is raising money in memory of his uncle Alan. Alan received care from the hospice at the end of his life ten years ago and in that time St Ann's have supported 30,000 patients and their families in similar situations. They need our support to keep that work going and that's where we come in: my feet, hot coals and your donations.
The reason that this is going to be a challenge is very simple: It's burning hot coals. You know why you were told never to pick up a lit sparkler after you've thrown it away? Why you always use oven gloves when removing a roast from the oven. That. I'm going to put my BARE FEET on temperatures I can only imagine are in excess of a car bonnet of a red Ford Cortina on the hottest British day since records began.
So please give me your support, and cold wet towels. Lots of them. All of them. And aloe vera. Just anything to take the pain away.
Joel and I have a big target - it's £640 - which would have paid for the food and drink of Joel's uncle Alan during his stay at the hospice. I'm asking for a fiver for each foot; not the ten feet I'm walking, just the left and the right. There may not be much left of them afterwards...
But I really, really would appreciate whatever you can spare, no matter how small.
