Story
Over the past couple of years i've been doing a few crazy challenges to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer care.
Next challenge -Loch Ness Traithlon (cycling, swimming and pedalo along Loch Ness and to Inverness) August 2012
So far, I've completed -
An EPIC 23mile Trek across the Mighty Glen Coe Mountain range and along the infamous Devils Staircase in the Western Scottish Highlands finishing up at the foot of Ben Nevis.**Completed**
On August 13th, I swam Loch Ness. Yes, Loch Ness, the home of the monster. And I'm not just talking a width, in my crazy World a width isn't enough! I swam from Urquhart Castle to Dores beach - which is a fair few miles (aprox 7), covers the deepest part, and is very very cold! **Completed**
Then for something completely different. On August 27th took part in the World Haggis Eating Championship in Dunkeld, Perthshire. I came 3rd. **Completed**
Then, on the 29th August, and probably the most exciting of the challenges, I travelled the ENTIRE length of Loch Ness....... on a PEDALO. I was joined by my StepDad, Andy Clark, and we pedalled all the way from Fort Augustus to Lochend, which is a minimum of 23 miles. Blair Drummond Safari Park (the Official Sponsor of this Challenge) kindly offered the loan of one of their splash boats so a massive thank you to them! **Completed**
On the 2nd of October I then completed the River Ness 10k run. Running isn't amongst my biggest strengths and I was a little reluctant to add this one, but the bigger the challenge the more point in doing it. I completed the challenge in 51 minutes which I was VEY happy with.
Then on 11th March 2012 I took part in the Inverness half Marathon, much much fi=urther than I had ever contemplated running before, and finished in 1 hour 54 minutes.
I was due to open my adventures by doing a Zip Wire at Hulls KC Stadium on the 29th May, but this has been postponed due to the Stadium being used for other purposes on that date now, so will update on that when I have more news. Also, was due to be taking part in the Marie Curie Whole Hog Challenge - a 6 mile assault course - but this has been postponed by Marie Curie until next year.
As an extra incentive, the more I raise the more i'll do so if anybody has any more viable suggestions i'd much appreciate the feedback.
I will be doing a Skydive at some point, but due to costs no date for this has been set yet, but it will be added to the confirmed list soon. Every penny I raise i'm putting straight to Marie Cure and ALL costs are coming out of my own pocket.
Other things i'm looking into are ROLLING down the Hole of Horcum in North Yorkshire and being the first person ever to sail across the Moray Firth...... on a giant inflatable rubber duck! Think there may be a few safety issues on that one though, and the wind/currents will probably take me to Norway!!
Feel free to email me on markocarri@live.co.uk for details, suggestions or any other information.
The page is always being updated, and new challenges being added all the time so keep checking back for updates.
Please take time to donate something, you can donate as little as £2 and it all makes a difference. You only live once and some people aren't as lucky to live their whole lives. We all know somebody who has been effected by cancer wether it's personal suffering or the suffering of someone we love. A small donation isn't much to ask and i'm willing to do some pretty crazy things just to encourage you to spare a pound or two. Have you seen just how deep, COLD, and wild Loch Ness is? Not to mention the chance of being eaten by Nessie!
No pain, no gain.
Marie Curie Cancer Care provide FREE nursing care to terminally ill cancer patients in their own home, so funding is essential and every penny counts.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now
Anything is a worthy donation, no matter how much, it all counts. All proceeds will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care. I'm also fundraising away from this page, selling Dafodil pin badges too, so you can donate in person if you don't want to do it online, and again ALL donations will go straight to Marie Curie.
Marching On Together, no matter who you are, who you support or what you believe.
Thank you to everyone who's taken the time to donate/support so far. You're the ones who deserve all the praise, give yourselves a huge pat on the back. I've done nothing yet.
Also looking for an "official sponsor" to help fund my challenges. Company name etc would appear on any wetsuit/clothing I wear through my challenges in return for funding for such items... and if you pay for me to do a Skydive too then happy days! Right now I'm funding everything myself... each event has costs plus travel expense.
Special thanks to a few people who without this would never have come to life. My Mum, Jane, S-K, Ruairidh MacLennan, Hannah and Lauren (for teaching me so much about myself, life, and responsibilities), Loch Ness RNLI, Blair Drummond Safari Park, Ross County Football Club, Ironworks Music Venue, the fans of Leeds United in particular the LeedsMad crew, and of course... everyone who has donated and offered support.
