adidas Manchester Marathon 2024 · 14 April 2024 ·

We fund care, campaigning and research to achieve a world free from MND

Story

On Sunday 14th April 2024 at the Manchester Marathon, Team Phil will attempt to run a marathon dressed as a caterpillar (Philapillar!) with the aim of being the fastest 6-person costume in history and becoming Guinness World Record holders. The current Guinness World Record stands at 4 hours 25 minutes 12 seconds and Team Phil hopes to smash this, aiming to complete the marathon distance in under 3 hours. In preparation, on Sunday 3rd March at the Paddock Wood Half Marathon, we broke the half-marathon world record by over 40 minutes, running it in 1 hour 19 minutes and 52 seconds.

In the caterpillar we have Rich Bidgood, Hugh Tibbs, Nick Wright, David Mills, James Bewley and Marcus Green.

Team Phil started in 2019 to raise awareness and fundraise for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. It was founded by Manchester-born Phil Rossall who was diagnosed with MND and sadly passed away in 2023. Ever since his diagnosis in 2016, he had focused on what he could do, and not on what he couldn't. He wanted to inspire others that despite his diagnosis, he was still able to do something amazing. Phil has held two Guinness World Records, written books and undertaken "blinkathon" blinking challenges, all to create a platform for MND.

So why Team Phil are doing this is probably obvious - to continue Phil's great work and to raise awareness of the devastating impact motor neurone disease has on sufferers and their families and friends. And importantly to direct attention towards the need to raise funds for research to find a cure as well support those who are living with the disease.

If you are able to donate towards this cause, that would be hugely appreciated. Equally, anything you can do to spread the word about our attempt and raise awareness would be amazing. We will use this page to update you on our preparation and training and fundraising events in the run up.
