Hi Everyone,
I’ve decided to raise money for Alzheimer’s
Concern, a charity which helps thousands of sufferers of
Dementia/Alzheimer’s. To do this I’ll be
running in the London Marathon - a grueling 26miles/42kms of athletic madness! I’m excited and privileged to be taking part
and am hoping you can help me raise some much needed money.
My grandmother, Thora who is 94, is suffering from
Dementia which makes my fund-raising mission a very personal one. The condition,
together with the physical problems, affects the brain causing sufferers to
forget simple things such as what time of day it is and not being able to recognise
family members or even those caring for them on a daily basis.
Alzheimer’s
Concern supports
people with Dementia and their carers by offering vital services like home
visits, psychological support with the aim of improving quality of life, self
esteem and preventing hospital admission.
Sadly, Alzheimer’s charities don’t receive much publicity or funds. More
people suffer with Alzheimer’s than with cancer and yet 34 times more money is
spent on cancer. We
need more funding to look into the cause, cure and how to care better for those
living with the disease.
Thanks for reading and I’d like to say a big thank
you in advance if you’re able to donate! I will train extra hard and run more than I ever have over the next few months to get to the finish line on April 25th- somehow, with a respectable time behind the Kenyans.
Cheers
Dom
