Story
Thanks for visiting my page!
My aim is to use the most active day of my life to provide an active lifetime for disabled children around the UK.
As an example, meet Archie, an 8 year old boy whohas neuromuscular disorders and muscular dystrophies.
Archie loves exploring, especially outdoors, and is extremely independent, determined and sociable, but he is only able to walk very short distances before he tires and feels weak meaning that he struggles to keep up with his peers. Archie's parents had to resort to pushing him around in a buggy which was not only difficult for them but incredibly restricting for Archie.
In May 2012 Whizz-Kidz provided Archie with a brand new trike which meant that he could start to gain independence and grow as every child should. The new trike is fantastic for strengthening Archie’s muscles and just as importantly for an 8 year old boy - having fun!
What Whizz-Kidz provides:
- Powered and lightweight manual wheelchairs which the kids are able to self-propel – fundamental to their independence. These wheelchairs become an extension of themselves.
- Wheelchair Skills Training enabling kids to get the most out of the equipment and be road safe.
- Ambassador Clubs and Camp Whizz-Kidz give kids an opportunity to make new friends, learn life skills and discover new talents.
- Work experience placements, bolstering skills and confidence for the young people, and also a determination for future employment, diminishing the link between disability and poverty
With support from Whizz-Kidz young disabled people can achieve freedom from their parents and carers, develop their own personalities, participate in society and take charge of their own lives.
