Story
Thankyou very much for taking the time to visit our Lung-Done Marathon JustGiving page!
Our Operations Manager, Tim Gregory, has been facing an incredible personal challenge over the last 12 months. At the tender age of 40, Tim developed breathing problems, and for someone who routinely cycles over 100 miles per week and takes part in long-distance cycling challenges, this was a real blow. Following many months waiting for a diagnosis (typical of Tim to develop something unusual!), the Royal Brompton Hospital has confirmed that he has a condition called NSIP. Tim is now undergoing i.v. drug treatment and he will have to continue having this medical intervention for the rest of his life in order to control the disease. He has and continues to face all this with huge courage and is still cycling as much as he can. As a result of this, the SeftonTransMail team decided we wanted to help in any way we could and contacted the Royal Brompton for advice as to the best way. The hospital said that they were very happy for us to raise funds for the specific unit that is treating Tim, so we thought this was an ideal way of showing support. We are now planning to cross the large county of Norfolk, on foot and in one day! It will be in the form of a relay on the 11th September 2010 with every member of the company taking part (no family members or ringers!). Every person will have to cover at least 2.5 miles as fast as they are capable of – walking, jogging, running or staggering are all acceptable, before handing over to a colleague, all done continuously for the whole of the 48.2 miles from Diss to Cromer. We are planning to have fish and chips on the pier to celebrate at the end – assuming we get there before they shut!!
