Story
Being an unorganised-type, I completed my six mile walk today (Saturday 17 June) and amazingly still have enough energy (just) to design this page! Though I've just had a nice bath and am all ready to go to bed...
But don't worry, you can still sponsor me.
I walked with about 25 other people in a big circle starting and finishing in Gargrave in the Yorkshire Dales which meant I even did a little tiny bit of the Pennine Way.
The money I'm raising by doing this walk will be used for Oxfam's East Africa Food Crisis Appeal and for longer-term development projects.
Very poor rainfall throughout 2005 has created the worst drought in East Africa since 2000. Eleven million people are now facing a serious food crisis. Huge numbers of animals have died and people are becoming destitute.
Oxfam is already helping 700,000 people in Kenya, Somalia and tanzania, through:
- food distribution
- cash-for-work
- creating water bore holes
- school feeding
- trucking of water
- de-stocking (buying livestock at a fair price),
- veterinary services
A BIG thank you for your support.
