Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Please read below to find out a bit more about my challenge, and the charity I am raising money for - The Himalayan Trust. It is our aim to raise £250, 000! With the help of your contributions, we are optimistic that we will exceed our goal. Thank you!
THE EVEREST TEST 2009 World Record Attempt - to play the highest game of cricket ever played.
As some of you will be aware, I am part of a team heading up Everest, to Gorak Shep, a plateau just above Base Camp. I am heading up the Support Team of 'Trektators' who will be trekking along side the two cricket teams Tenzing and Hilary. Having reached 5165m the teams will be playing a Twenty20 cricket match, in an attempt to play the highest game of cricket ever played. This is an amazing challenge, and in aid of a really special Charity.
THE HIMALAYAN TRUST
On May 29th 1953 in the British Expedition led by John Hunt, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Sherpa became the first men to set foot on the summit of Mount Everest. In the years that followed, Sir Edmund returned repeatedly to Nepal, and to his friends the Sherpas,
The Himalayan Trust, set up in 1960 aims to:
- Provide basic infrastructure for the Sherpas who have very few resources, living at such a high altitude
- Giving Sherpas the opportunity to help themselves - "self help" in offering the basic necessary resources
- Support the Trust that works off voluntary support and therefore eliminates overheads
- No money is paid to the middle man - all money goes to Nepal!
