Story
We are a group of individuals and institutions who want this time, after the riots, to be remembered for how local communities rallied together in a positive way. Seeing members of the public join together after the riots, brooms in hand, to clean away the debris in affected streets was a reassuring sight, it reminded us all that neighbourhood spirit is still strong amongst our communities despite the challenges they face. Looking at the depressing sight of burnt houses, broken windows, and looted shops the overriding emotion could have been fuelled with anger and resentment but amongst the hundreds of helpful volunteers it was instead one of optimism and solidarity.
When faced with disruption and conflict Londoners showed they can stand together and promote a better future. To this end we have set up the ‘We Love London’ Fund to support individuals affected by the London riots and to provide longer term help for damaged communities. There have already been a number of fantastic local appeals for particular individuals and we want to build on this to help others that have been affected across the Capital. Please give generously to help these hardworking Londoners get back on their feet.
Hear from one of the existing donors... "
"Helping people build self-supporting structures is the basis of Deutsche Bank's social commitment. This is why we are delighted to support the We Love London appeal. In times like this, we know that getting donations to the right people as efficiently as possible takes real work. This is why we are also paying for the administration costs of running this appeal, to ensure that 100% of all other donations go directly to the cause." Kate Cavelle, Director, Corporate Citizenship UK, Deutsche Bank
Donations will be used to...
- In the first instance, to give hardship grants to help those who have lost their homes and possessions to get back on their feet and to help independent business owners re-build their businessess and livelihoods.
- Longer term, to foster a sense of community cohesion in damaged areas, by funding local charities and voluntary groups that are building stronger communities rather than allowing these events to lead to a breakdown in relations. This stream of funding will kick in once the need for hardship grants declines and depending on the amount we raise!
How will it be distributed?
The ‘We Love London’ Fund will be distributed by The Capital Community Foundation (CCF) which has channelled over £30 million into local communities over the past 15 years. CCF is a quality accredited member of the Community Foundation Network whose members have worked on other emergency relief programmes such as the Cumbria and South Yorkshire Flood Appeals. 100% of your donation will go to the people and communities in need. We want to start making grants as soon as possible so please donate now!
How can you donate?
Through this JustGiving page you can donate tax effectively boosting your donations by 25% which means more money will be raised for the appeal. If you wish to give to a particular area of London you can also give through www.cravify.com. For this, you will need a PayPal account. If more money is raised for a particular area than is needed, we will apply it to other affected areas.
