Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Both Mark and I have lost grandparents to dementia in its various forms; my Nan, Pam as an added complication of Parkinson's Disease, Mark's Grampa from Alzheimer's disease, and recently his Gran who developed dementia following a serious stroke. My Nan, Gwen, also now has vascular dementia.
Dementia is non-discriminatory, unrelenting and incurable. It will affect 1,000,000 people by 2025 and is also the biggest killer of women in the UK.
So in many ways I decided to take this challenge because I don't want more people to go what they and their families went through. More selfishly, the better research into dementia is, the less chance we have of having to see it happen to our parents or each other. And in the meantime, raising money for people with dementia to be able have the specialist care they need is essential, for the individuals and for their families.
In addition to the cause (and on a lighter note!), I felt a bit daft one day, all full of adrenaline from a gym session, and thought, 'I'm super strong! I can do anything! What shall I do next?!' So if nothing else, I think you should all give me your money in recognition of the fact that there was one day in 2016 that I thought I was some kind of superhero, and because of it, I'm not only climbing one mountain, but three!!!
I'll be posting pictures of my training over the next six months or so, to keep you all entertained with my rosy cheeks and all the wonderful scenery.
