Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Steve's JustGiving page.
In his final days, Steve was cared for by the amazing staff at The Martlets's Hospital in Brighton. To be honest, he didn't want to go there, but as soon as he arrived, he was greeted by the calm and immensely kind staff and given a beautiful light room with large doors onto their garden (all tended by volunteers). A yellow rose bush in full bloom was just outside where he could see it and the gentle birdsong was a welcome respite from the seagulls outside his flat. They took the time to find out about who he was - respected him as a person - not just a patient.
It gave his friends and family a chance to see him finally relaxed and properly cared for. We could just sit and spend precious time with him - most importantly his pain was eased.
The Martlets is not part of the NHS and needs to generate over £4.3 million annually to ensure the continuation of Hospice services. Less than a third of this funding is received from local Primary Care Trust so they need your help.
Instead of flowers, Steve's family have asked you to donate to the dedicated work of The Martlets, in his memory and in in gratitude for the gentle and compassionate way in which they treated Steve and all his friends and family at the end of his extrordinary life.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please donate now to remember Steve.
A special thanks to Isolde Nash for her beautiful photograph.
