Story
Leon Bartholomew was born on 05/11/2010. In August 2012, doctors discovered a tumour in his left lung, after doing a routine CT scan to see if fluid from pneumonia needed to be drained from his lung. He had no symptoms from the tumour, so it came as a massive shock to everyone involved. He had a biopsy and was sent home to wait for results. 5 days later he spiked a temperature and the hospital asked him to go back in. An x-ray showed that the tumour had grown that much it was now covering his entire left lung, and was squashing his heart and right lung. He was taken to surgery, where they had to remove the whole of his left lung. It took doctors over 5 weeks to get the results of tests on the tumour, and he was diagnosed with Undifferentiated Sarcoma, a very rare form of cancer. He started chemotherapy in October. A CT scan showed that the cancer had spread and he had 3 small tumours in his brain.
Sadly, Leon's condition worsened, and in February 2013 following a seizure, a total of 5 tumours were found in his brain. It became clear that he was incurable, and so the focus was put on pain and symptom management. He still remained strong throughout his fight, managing a smile every day. He passed away on March 22nd 2013, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends.
Throughout all of this, Leon remained a very cheeky, giggly little boy, and did not complain once. His battle was a short one, but had extreme highs and lows, right from the start. Leon's family and friends are raising money for CLIC Sargent, a charity who are supporting them all through this extremely hard time.
