Story

I am fundraising for East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity! The charity supports the four hospitals within the East and North Hertfordshire Trust - Lister Hospital, New QEII, Hertford County and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre - helping them go above and beyond for patients, their families and visitors. The charity funds new specialist equipment, extra staff training, research and projects to enhance patient experience. You make the difference! Donate today!

I have had it agreed with the hospital that all funds from this will go to Level 7 physiotherapy department at Lister Hospital.

My story:

As many know, I had an accident on February 18th 2022, during Storm Eunice, when a wall collapsed onto me. This resulted in a left below knee amputation. Whilst my hospital stay and surgeries was all done at Addenbrookes, Cambridge, my physio journey has been at Lister, with the level 7 team.

I am a PE teacher and a really keen netballer so this was just devastating. I’m quite an active person and quite like hiking too! So it’s been a really difficult time.

I want to raise money for the L7 physiotherapy team who are helping to get me back up, because a thank you will just never be enough.

When I first met Matt, I was so fragile and burst into tears. He very calmly pulled up a chair and started our physio journey by just calmly talking to me. They have listened to me, laughed with me, fought my corner and given me the confidence to keep pushing on.

Every session is challenging, and fun. If you’ve seen the videos, you can see the progress, and the laughter. However, I know, because Matt has told me, that they fully appreciate how difficult this has all been for me.

They haven’t just helped me with the practical elements of learning to walk again. They have helped me mentally and genuinely seem to care about how I am both at physio, and when I am away from physio to.

So, I saw the Rainbow Run advertised and decided to give myself a challenge. I my not run it I may walk it instead but one way or another I will achieve a 5K 7 months after losing my leg!

The team, and what they do, is really amazing!

Any donation will help them continue providing the care that they have for me for other people. I may be a little bonkers … but I’ve never done anything by half. I’ve always loved a challenge.
