Story
In August 2015 my stepdad Bill was diagnosed with stage 4 throat, neck and tongue cancer. It came as an unexpected shock and everything happened very quickly. The Christie hospital were wonderful and very supportive during this time. Their treatment of Bill was world class, and they answered any questions and provided an incredible environment during a difficult time. My friends and I want to raise money so they can continue with their incredible work for other families.
Unforunately Bill lost his battle with cancer on 1st June 2016. He truly appreciated the support and love given to him.
For January 2016 I completed Dry January. In February I gave up social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat) which you can read about on http://thechristienhs.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/i-decided-to-give-up-social-media-to.html
On 24th April I competed in the City of York triathlon. 400m swim/18km bike ride/5km run. Placing 39/163! With a time of 01:22:55
On 24th June Thom and I completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks ~23 miles, with 3 peaks of ~700m in 10 hours!
The biggest and final challenge is the Coast to Coast walk, going through three national parks. Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk, 190 miles ~300km, over 13 days with my tent and rucksack.
I will stay in barns, camp sites and some hostels. I wanted to do something that is both physically and mentally challenging. I will start the journey on July 10th. In preparation for this I have been doing regular hikes and general fitness work.
I have officially booked my accommodation for The Coast to Coast in July. Which is quite the challenge itself.
Due to an injury I sustained in December/January to my medial collateral ligament, I have been forced to change the walk from 50km a day in the Lakes to the Coast to Coast. Months of physiotherapy has improved my knee greatly but I still need more time to fully recover. I am able to walk, cycle and swim and have been cleared for the walk but unfortunately the 50km a day challenge was not feasible this year.
This is truly for a great cause, The Christie Hospital. One of the largest cancer centres in Europe who are doing cutting edge research and deliver great patient care. Any donation is appreciated. All donations will go to The Christie Hospital and none towards the cost of the trips.
